Planning permissions in the uk

The first question you will be asking yourself is ‘Do I need planning permission?’
Planning needs are wholly determined by the intended use of a log cabin and where it is to be sited.
Generally planning permission will be required but there are circumstances, such as extended family use etc, where a Local Authority may agree to the siting of a log cabin
under the rules of Permitted Development in your home.
Planning is a specialist subject with very specific rules and we recommend using a planning consultant to obtain planning in needed,
It is always best for you to check with your local planning office if you are unsure.
It is our belief that the following are issues concerning planning permission:
Councils do vary across the uk.

The building should be placed more than 5 metres away from the main property.

The building should not take up more than 50% of the surrounding property area.

The roof line should be lower than 4metres if it is a pitched roof.
Building Regs:
- A building less than 20 square metres can be sited close to a boundary.
- A building between 20 and 30 square metres should be situated at least 1 metre from any boundary.
- A building over 30 square metres may require planning permission. You should discuss this with your local building control.
Other Restrictions:
- Covenants may exist to restrict the siting of a Cabin.
- If you live in a conservation area or a listed property it is best to check with your Local Authority if there are any restrictions.
